Game Jam Manchester

The Idea

To organise a GameJam in Manchester that would run for 36 hours straight. The aim of a GameJam is to engage people interested in making games and form teams of novices, games industry veterans, designers, soundmakers, and pervasive gamers to create new games - whether they are boardgames, ambient experiences, or more traditional videogames.

All games will be made available for download after the event, and some people will be making first steps towards the games industry.

GameJam is a global event that has been running for over a decade in dozens of countries and cities.

This will be the first GameJam in Manchester, and one of the largest to ever run in the UK  as well as the first fully-independent one.

Hatching plans...

On Friday 20 April, all co-jammers and organisers are having a social event to hatch plans for the weekend. The jam is from Saturday morning through to Sunday night, even going all the way through saturday night. There’ll be a general theme for the weekend if people want to make a larger game, and the jam will also hold a couple of short jams on each daytime session.

Teh Madlab team will put up some webspace to host the finished games, and will be encouraging people to share their code too: looking at how people have built stuff is all part of the fun. Ownership of anything will go to the creator of the game, but sharing is caring, right?
